The Scotto family releases 50 Harvests, to commemorate fifty consecutive California harvests for this pioneering winemaking family. Five generations of Scottos have produced wine dating back to 1883 in Italy. In 1963, they moved to California, and have been making quality wines every year since. Their next fifty year journey as 5th generation vintners continues with the release of this 2013 Napa Valley Meritage, an elegant red wine from a superb vintage.

When my great grandfather immigrated to New York in 1903, he moved his family into in a “brownstone” apartment. This popular building material not only housed many Italian families in the northeast, it was often quarried by Italians as well. These wines honor our Italian-American ancestors, who paved the way for future generations by “working the brownstone.” – Natalie J. Woods

In the ring or in your glass – smoother is better!
Heavyweight wines originated when our winemaker discovered an unusually flavorful barrel of Cabernet Sauvignon and asked the Scotto Family to use it for some real “Heavyweight” wines. The 2006 Cabernet introduction was followed by these award winning champions that stand the test of time. Red wine champions KO the competition with a full-bodied start and lush, dark fruit and berry flavors that leave no room to run. The soft vanilla oak finish is smooth and satisfying, like every well balanced champion.

It’s good to be a Knucklehead- at least if you are an ancient Sierra Foothills Zinfandel vineyard. Head pruning leaves these vines twisted like old, contorted knuckles, making it easy to recognize these vineyards. More importantly, this helps produce small clusters of intensely flavored fruit. After hand harvesting, this fruit goes through an extended fermentation that concentrates the dark berry and spice flavors which are then enhanced by barrel aging.

The Vermeil home had a very “Old World” feel to it where wine was enjoyed by all at the dinner table from a very young age. Since the mid-1800s, artists like Picasso, Matisse, Salvador Dalí, van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec have all occupied studios around this landmark hilltop. France – Veuve Devienne
Winegrowing in France is often a family owned vineyard and winery operation handed down through the generations. Veuve Devienne (“the Widow Devienne”) gave her family name to a traditional sparkling wine – a classic Brut cuvée – after many years of growing white grapes for the production of premium table wines. Although much of the family history has been lost over time, this sparkling wine has remained true to its origins: a rigorous selection of grapes, slow secondary fermentation (while those delightful bubbles are created) and bottling in a traditional style.
